The meeting was called to order at 6:50 PM by the pres= ident Chuck Needham.

 

ADDITIONS TO THE AGENDA

ADOPTION OF THE MARCH 01, 2010 MINUTES

 

Motion to accept the March 01, 2010 minutes as pres= ented

BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES

 

- There was a question as to why the Divorce open being moved into June.

Former participants have stated that they would like t= o play the tournament

but that they have too much= on the go in August and could it be moved to June.

- Chuck Needham is taking for action to get the locks = on the clubhouse and pro shop changed,

once that is done the alarm= codes will also be changed.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

GREENS

 

- Corey Phillips has had a walk around the course and = the course looks good.

- There is no snow mold on the greens. Greens are dorm= ant and bare spots have filled in.

- IPM counsel has approved Corey Phillips to be the IPM agent for NLGC.

- IPM desk audit was submitted to the IPM counsel.

- Fertilizer prices have dropped some.

- Bulk orders for Frog=3Ds B= reath for much less.

- Frog=3Ds B= reath would be responsible for all shipping charges and damages.

- Yvan wants to rent a stu= mp grinder for $200.00 to remove stumps and roots that are encroaching on the greens.

- Looks good for opening the golf season prior to May = 1, 2010.

 

PRO SHOP

 

- Hiring committee conducted extensive interviews with= the two main applicants.

- Recommend Bruce Helbig b= e hired.

 

Motion to extend an offer to Bruce Helbig for one year

CARRIED  =

 

CLUBHOUSE

 

- Going to try reduced hours of operation throughout t= he week.

- Limited food selection.

- All major events will be catered.

- Best case scenario to break even, worst case to lose $10,000.00,

will monitor it very closel= y and adapt hours if/when necessary.

- There is a question about whether or not we will be = able to sell sandwiches out of the Pro Shop.

- Clear direction must be given to the club manager.

- Need to hire employees and train them to be part of = golf course,

such that they can capably = work the clubhouse, pro shop or beer cart.

- Clubhouse rental agreement was discussed and some mi= nor word changes were implemented.

- Three caterers are being pursued.

- Decks to be completed.

- Socials expected to run first Friday of the month bu= t will need volunteers to make it happen.

- Hope to make the golf course the place to be again.<= /p>

- Clinics will also need volunteers to be successful.<= /p>


 

 

FINANCES

 

- Accounting costs, still want to see them reduced.

- Want financial statements to be more simple and read= able to the layman.

- Tournaments need to be broke down into more detail.<= /p>

 

Motion to hire Kemp Elliot and Blair to provide accounting services for

NLGC at a rate of $4,000.00 for 2010 season

- Rick Lavictoire will be = offered a free membership and ensure that the transition is seamless.

- Pat Elliot brought up the student membership rate, w= e don=3Dt want to be known as the

most expensive course for s= tudents in the north.

 

Motion to offer a student membership at a rate of $= 350.00 to students

aged 19 - 25 who = are enrolled in a full time University or College program

CARRIED

 

- Mike Bonnah asked about = the Family Membership rate and how are we going

to make it affordable for f= amilies with multiple children.

- Ross Latter stated that if we deal with multiple chi= ldren the same way as other

sports like minor hockey who discount subsequent children then we don

- Going to begin radio plugs soon.

- Will put Flyers in local motels to drum up green fee= s.

 

PLANNING

 

- Mike Bonnah asked if any= one had any experience with government grants.

- Alvin Willard stated that they are only for capital projects and not day to day expenses.

- Will investigate further, since one day we hope to b= e able to do capital projects.

- FrogRecreation Center, there was a meeting with the City manager and a number of interested partie= s.

 The city= was then supposed to get back to us but we are still waiting.

 

MEMBERSHIP

 

- An interested member of the Hai= leybury Golf club lobbied the board to not drop the combined membership option.

- After careful consideration it was decided that our members are better served by entering

 into a reduced green fee agreement with our neighbouring courses. For example,

 any member of Kirkland Lake, Haileybury or Ville de Marie course could play our course for half price.

Likewise any member from NLGC could play any of those courses for half price.

- Joe Marsh to write a letter to the surrounding cours= es to try and get this set up.

- To date 5 five year memberships have been purchased.=

- The large majority of the membership is waiting for = the 15 April to join.

NEW BUSINESS

 

- The deal with the city will save us $8857.52 from ou= r 2009 taxes.

We need to get our back taxes paid to reduce our inter= est costs.

- Any one who doesn=3Dt join= by April 30, 2010 may buy a monthly green fee pass.

The pass will cost $400.00 plus GST for May June and $= 400.00 plus HST for July August.

- More discussions on Green Fee passes will need to ta= ke place with the Club Manager.

- Tournament committee to meet and discuss the charity tournament policy.

In the past to do our corporate part members were not charged

green fees and all NLGC rec= eived was the cart rental, bar and meal revenues.

- Alvin Willard to write letter to Smitty=3Ds tournament to ask that NLGC be considered one of the&= nbsp; beneficiaries.


- The number of days ahead that a member can book was discussed and it was d

ecided= that any member of good standing can book 4 days ahead and non-members can = book 2 days ahead.

- Pat Elliot to investigate bag tags.

- Bruce Murphy asked the board to investigate our bird houses.

He stated that a parasite infects the nest and kills t= he young if they are not cleaned out each season.

He offered to supply new birdhouses to allow them to be cleaned out if required. Brian Flaxey will investigate.

- A letter will be written to Cha= rtrand=3Ds to identify who may charge groc= eries on behalf of NLGC.

- We will apply for the $2.00 per hour subsidy on our student workers.
