Reports:
Greens
- Billy Terris and the greens crew will continue to over seed until the soil temperature drops and the seed will no longer germinate. They will also be doing a dormant seed late in the fall, which will germinate when the soil temperature warms up in the spring. They will also be aerating all the tees.
- The crew is busy cutting grass and trying to maintain the bunkers. With the heavy rains it takes two days to repair the bunkers.
- We are waiting for a proposal from Mr Jamie Birch, which will allow us to grind stumps and prune roots for the exchange of a membership. There are several stumps around the greens on hole #2, #3 and #4 that they would concentrate on. The proposal will be presented to the executive when it is received.
- We are also looking into pricing for portable outhouses. These units would be easier to clean and more convenient.
- They will have to replace the bridge that crossed the creek from #13 to #15.
- For safety reasons they will be moving the cart path to the left side of #1 forward tee in order to make people more visible from the upper tees. They will be constructing two sets of stairs for the forward tee.
- For the benefit of the greens we would like to close #2, #7, #12 and #18 greens. The extra growing time would allow the new seed to germinate and get ready for winter. We are trying this, as we would like to not have to sod next June.
Clubhouse
- Chuck Durrant has been laid off for financial reasons. Sue Shepherdson has been asked to help in the kitchen along with George Beasley for men’s nights etc. The cleanliness of the kitchen has greatly improved.
Finance
- Our finances are in trouble and we have to borrow a large amount (approximately $100,000.00) to get through the winter.
- As Alvin Willard was absent from the meeting finances will be discussed in great detail at the next meeting.
Tournaments
- Sept 3-man scramble was well attended, however because of rain and unplayable conditions the Sunday was cancelled and the tournament was only an 18-hole tournament. This obviously cost some revenue in bar, cart rentals and kitchen sales.
Advertising
- Monday and Wednesday on CJTT
Motion to accept the Committee reports by Mike Bonnah, seconded by Joe Marsh. CARRIED
New Business
- Golf hole signs: There has been complaints that the size of the signs are too small and therefore the sponsorship names cannot be seen. Many feel this is the reason we have 4 out of 18 holes sponsored.
- Chuck Needham will keep a list of sponsors. You are to call Chuck and tell him which companies you are going to approach.
- Score Board Platform: Rolly Rheaume will look into repairs of the platform and possible re-location. A decision about re-location will be made at a future date.
Next meeting will be held October 9, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. at the Chamber Office
